How the daily flag is chosen
The puzzle is drawn from all 203 countries and territories in Speakrow's dataset, including places that other flag quizzes leave out, such as Greenland, Puerto Rico, and Western Sahara. The pick is seeded from the calendar date, so everyone playing on the same day sees the same flag, and the day rolls over at your local midnight rather than at a fixed UTC hour.
Strategy that actually helps
In multiple choice, the three wrong answers are deliberately drawn from the same continent as the correct one, so you cannot solve it by ruling out a region. Read the flag instead: canton position, stripe direction, and any emblem in the center narrow it far faster than a guess between neighbors.
In typed mode the first hint gives you the continent and the second gives the first letter, so a deliberately wrong early guess is sometimes worth more than a plausible one. Color families help too: pan-African red, gold, and green; pan-Arab red, white, black, and green; the Nordic off-center cross. Recognizing the family gets you to a shortlist of five or six countries, and the hint does the rest.
Where the flag images come from
Flags are served from flagcdn.com. National flags are in the public domain, and the images are used as published rather than redrawn. Country names, alternate spellings, and continent groupings come from the same openly licensed dataset that powers the rest of Speakrow, which is why typed answers accept both "Ivory Coast" and "Cote d'Ivoire".

- Yes. Guess the Flag is free, needs no account, and has no play limit. The daily puzzle is one round; practice mode is unlimited.
- Does everyone get the same flag each day?
- Yes. The daily flag is generated from the calendar date, so every player sees the same country on the same day. The puzzle changes at your local midnight, not at a fixed UTC time, so you never have to wait for a timezone to catch up.
- How many guesses do you get?
- Typed mode gives you 4 guesses, with a hint unlocking after each miss: first the continent, then the first letter of the country name. Multiple choice gives you a single pick from four options.
- What happens if you misspell a country name?
- Small typos are forgiven. Answers are matched with accents, punctuation, and spacing stripped, plus a tolerance for one or two character slips, so "Kyrgistan" is accepted for Kyrgyzstan. The tolerance is deliberately tight so a typo can never turn into a different valid country.
- Can you play more than once a day?
- Yes. Practice mode serves endless random flags and can be filtered by continent. Practice rounds never affect your daily streak, which only moves when you finish the day's puzzle.
- How many flags are in the game?
- All 203 countries and territories in Speakrow's dataset can appear, including inhabited territories with their own flags that many quizzes omit.
